Went to a convention yesterday and scored pretty well. Filled out my Shadowrun collection (which I have to take a picture of; it’s getting pretty big now) and picked up one of the few Changeling books I’m missing. (Which came with a surprise for me: apparently I’m mentioned in the thanks! Thirteen years later and I just find this out?) Also: started a To Do List for all of...

What I tell myself I’m going to do - WORK ON ALL THE SHADOWRUN STUFF What I actually do - spend three hours reading a web forum’s image thread and laughing. And I wonder why I’m so unprepared come Tuesday nights.

I shouldn't read Tumblr at 8 in the morning
A little while ago (okay, a few entries ago) I went off about how much I hated Catalyst and how they Fail and all of this other BS. M reminded me that hey, I love Shadowrun, and maybe I should talk about the positive aspects of it and stop focusing on what they’re doing. I said then and I repeat it now: M had a very good point. I was thinking about this because I was browsing the Gencon tag...

shadow-jackal: LINKY Hey so I have this craving to sit in a circle around a table and be antisocial while arguing about math, which is basically PnP gaming in a nutshell and you know this to be true. I want some old school elf wizards shootin magic missiles at sinister octopus-people with princesses all…

gadgetry: nhaler replied to your post: nhaler replied to your post: I forget that I’m… But this is precisely what makes it fascist. A giant blog post would be necessary (and in vain) to detail how, but do you see where.I’m going when I suggest the creative plurality is superficial, highly… This is all very good, very important stuff I think that everyone, GM and player alike, should read...

beckz0rz: Wow, actually I am wrong, one more post about Magic: the Gathering There’s this really nerdy club at my school that’s like a gaming and magic and chess club (like, I’m not nerdy enough to join, it’s weird) And the most girls that have ever been in it is like 2? And some of my friends play in their Magic Tournaments but even if I knew how to play I couldn’t join in because I’m too...

M pointed out to me that yesterday’s WTF Thursday post regarding Catalyst was, well, a little basement crew, and that I should be doing something more positive with my hobby than ranting about people I will never meet up with. She has a point. So I started working on a more positive project for Shadowrun - one that will require actually writing things and posting them, other than...

Okay, apparently today is WTF Thursday. Another new book came out from Catalyst for Shadowrun - Hazard Pay, which looks like it’s kind of a cross between Target: Awakened Lands and Threats. The physical book is $35 dollars (WTF?) and the PDF is $25 (WTF?). Seriously? Maybe it’s because I haven’t bought a physical gaming book for ages and have mostly been browsing cheap Story...

So I discovered this on my Tumblr this morning. Upon reading, I find myself reminded of why playing Smash Bros. anywhere outside of my home is a terrible exercise in frustration. The damning quote (for me): Stage freezing. -Stops all stage movement, potentially allowing for more neutral stages. Only applies for: Luigi’s Mansion - Formerly, the stage would always be in the...

Actual Play: Drunken Shadowrun
I got asked to run drunken Shadowrun last night. [[MORE]] Well, okay, Shadowrun wasn’t originally the game mentioned; that was D&D, and it was because a friend’s son was at their house, playing it with his friends. But we were at a Kentucky Derby Party, and we were all in the mood to not just go home and chill out the rest of the night, so when said friend mentioned this, myself...

Free Comic Book Day! (follow up)
Got back a little while ago with a respectable little pile, I think. Ended up with the Mouseguard FCBD hardcover(!), Atomic Robo, Superman Family (wife and I were big fans of Tiny Titans, and this is the same creative team), Flash #1 (they were giving them away), Catwoman #8, and Batwoman: Elegy, which I’d been thinking about since the guy at the comic shop introduced it to me. It was a...

Free Comic Book Day!
Also, this is today. Find your local shop here, and support them. You’ll never find a more noble cause. And, if you’re like me, you’ll be picking up the Atomic Robo comic, the one where Robo and Dr. Dinosaur team-up for…Science?

Wife and I went to go see Avengers last night. I was surprised that she wanted to go - comic book movies, and action movies in general, aren’t her thing - but she was enthusiastic. So we went. Great movie. It was full of Whedon-isms, but most of them were great. There were lots of little touches added to it that didn’t so much add to the story, but told great character moments - my...

How I learned to stop worrying and became a lazy...
I suppose if I’m going to re-blog gaming things, then maybe I should actually talk about them… One of the things I’m most annoyed about Shadowrun is the lack of, well, help. The Shadowrun core 4A book - while an absolutely beautiful book - also suffers from having lots of rules for many things spread over many, many pages and chapters. Also, there’s a lack of GM support:...
